The Braniff family have been based on the Gold Coast of over 20 years, building the foundations of a renowned tattoo parlour that’s reputation is known throughout Australia. With three family run shops and arguably the best crew of artists available in Australia it’s a business any family would be proud of. We regularly have some of the worlds most talented artists come and work from our Gold Coast base.

We have many people who come to us wanting a portrait tattoo of a family member or loved one. With a crew of twelve experienced artists over our three locations, you have the choice of artists that best suit your style. Portrait tattoos can either be true to life colour, fantasy colours or black and white. Have a look through our gallery, we have examples of children, partners and another common request is pets.

Photographs are sometimes the only thing that remains after a family member has passed away, a portrait tattoo is a permanent daily reminder of that person and the impact they had on your life. Other people choose to have portraits of people they find inspiring, a role model in their life or beautiful such as celebrities.

What to expect when getting your tattoos

In our last blog post, we provided an overview of the tattooing process for relative newcomers of the art. In our article, we ran through a few of the preparations that need to be made before the big day. The preparations included finalising your design and ensuring that you ate a high energy meal before leaving for the studio. In today’s blog post we will continue to Part #2 of our series on the tattooing process, where we will explain exactly what happens once you arrive at Gold Coast Tattoos to get your new ink.

Prep Work

Once you arrive at our studio, we’re sure that you’ll be extremely excited and full of energy. Please introduce yourself to our staff, but just be mindful that they might be finishing up their current tattoo. Once they are finished, they will take the time to fully sterilize and clean the area. At Gold Coast Tattoos, we spare no expense in ensuring that your tattoo is done in a clean and safe environment.

We’re almost ready!

Once the artist is free and ready to go, they will invite you over to their area of the studio. If you’ve previously consulted with them, they should be ready to go ahead with your design and will only require a brief conversation regarding it. If you haven’t spoken to them before, then take your time to ensure that the artist shares the same vision as yours. However, do understand that our artists only have your best interests at heart. Please don’t get offended if they insist that your tattoo be done a certain way in order to retain its integrity over the coming years. An example might be that you would like a detailed tattoo the size of a 10 cent coin – it just wouldn’t work. The artist will also advise you on the proper positioning of the tattoo, but we will discuss this more in the next article.

What to do before getting your tattoos

If you are like many people and have never gotten a tattoo before, it is understandably an experience that can be quite nerve-racking. Here at Gold Coast Tattoos we find that the best way to ease your nerves is to fully understand what will happen in our tattoos studio, so that you are as mentally and physically prepared as possible. In the first blog post in this series, we will explore what will happen on the big day and provide some guidelines for getting yourself ready to be inked.

Before you arrive

If you have booked an appointment to get your tattoo, the first thing to do is to ensure that you are 100% happy with your design – we don’t have to remind you about how permanent tattoos are. If there’s anything that you want to change don’t stress, as our tattoo artists are extremely talented and are able to adapt your design without too much hassle. The earlier that you can inform them of this, the smoother the process will be.

Research is key

If you are getting any text or foreign symbols, don’t forget to do your research and make sure that everything is spelt correctly and has the correct meanings. Quite often in Japanese and Asian writing, even the slightest difference in a stroke of the letter can completely alter the meaning, so it’s best to be sure before it’s put on your body.

Remember to eat

The final thing to do before leaving for the tattoo studio is to ensure that you have a hearty meal, with lots of carbs and sugars. Tattooing can be both mentally and physically stressful, and as a result a malnourished person may become lightheaded or even pass out if they haven’t adequately prepared their bodies.
