Your tongue will swell. How much it will swell is individual for each person.
Instructions:
- Rinse mouth with a diluted anti-bacterial mouth wash (oral-b) after anything & everything you eat or drink. At least 3 -4 times a day for about 2 or 3 weeks.
- Rinse with warm salty water as often as possible.
- NO hard or solid food for 7 - 10 days. No chewing for this time or until change down. Stick to very soft food like baby food. Try to stay away from dairy food as well.
- Never bite or chew or roll the barbell on your teeth. This can cause the piercing to tear or move off centre. Be careful for at least 3 moths after as it can still flare up for up to a year.
Useful Tips
- In the first couple hours sucking crushed ice can help deal with swelling & tenderness. Difflam-C is a mouthwash to help deal with inflammation. Also Taking a complete course of neurofen. This is an anti-inflammatory Ibuprofen that can greatly reduce swelling. Make sure you get advise on dose & length of time for safe use by chemist or doctor. (Note: Do not take neurofen if you have or are prone to stomach ulcers or if you are pregnant. Check with a doctor if in doubt.)
- Sleeping on 2 pillows for 2 - 3 nights will lessen blood flow and in effect will reduce swelling.
- Bear in mind, there may be complications with the tongue; it tears easily & you may have to take it out. In some cases it can cause speaking difficulty.
- Any problems see a professional or a doctor immediately!!
